The Paw Sox play in McCoy Stadium, a WPA project built in 1942. Until this year it had a capacity of just 7,000 fans, the smallest park in the league, alhtough the team still finished in the top ranks of attendance among International League teams.

In August 1996 the team and the city of Pawtucket reached an agreement that extends the PawSox's lease on McCoy for 10 years past its original 2000 expirdation date, with two 5-year options thereafter. In February 1998 the team announced more than $12 million in renovations to the park over the next year. The upgrades include 3,000 new seats, mostly down the third base line, improved handicapped access, and structural improvements. The McCoy Stadium renovations will be completed in time for the 1999 season.

Visitors to McCoy will be hard-pressed not to find out that the stadium hosted the longest game in professional baseball history: a 33-inning affair between the Paw Sox and the Rochester Red Wings. The first 32 innings were played on the night of April 18-19, 1981, and after suspending that game, the final inning was played on June 23. Future All-Stars such as Cal Ripken Jr. and Wade Boggs played in the game which the PawSox won 3-2. A number of reminders of that historic game can be found in the stadium, right down to the soda cups!

McCoy has gained a reputation as a hitter's park, due to its short dimensions. Until this year the field was 325 down the lines in left and right but only 380 feet to center field, the shortest of any park in AAA. After the renovations the park is still 325 down the lines but is now 375 to left- and right-center and 400 to center. The height of the fences, however, has been reduced, so the pakr should maintain its reputation as a hitters' haven.

From the south, take I-95 to Rhode Island exit 28 (School St.) and go to Columbus Avenue and onto the stadium. Limited free parking is available at parking lots at the stadium as well as on nearby streets. A number of pay lots are also available by the stadium.
